Good morning everyone, It is 8:30, Jeff is here from the hotel and has run down to the cafeteria to get me a cup of coffee. Seth had an ok night. He did sleep some but by doing so he missed hitting his moriphine pump and missed 3 doses of pain meds. That in itself caused problems. They didn't want to add anything else for pain to his IV and so he was hurting pretty bad. He has worked since to stay awake, he really needs to sleep. It is a catch twenty two.
The surgeons rounded at 6:45 and the next wave is on the floor now. Perhaps we can get some other pain redemies going.
Seth's hemoglobin is at 8, and they will transfuse if he becomes symptomatic. He is going on his 3rd day of no food, that is tripping him out. Not that he is hungry he says, but very empty feeling. His digestive system has been put to sleep and we are waiting for it to wake up before they pull the stomach tube. It is very dangerous to do this too soon. Well that is all I know at this point. Seth is awake and alert and enjoying the comments you all are sending him. Until next time... Vickie

Good Morning, I have been up the past two mornings at 5 or so praying for you guys. Seth you are a very brave young man. God is there holding you in his arms smiling. He will use this time of your life to help out so many people. I am thinking and praying for you throughout the day. Can someone else do your pump for you while you sleep? Maybe set an alarm so mom or dad can hit it for you so you can sleep? I will post more later but for now I Love You all. Uncle Nate

Hi Vickie - Just want to let you know I have been praying lots for Seth and of course you and your husband. As you know I have been going to Univ. of Iowa for most of my care and will be there Feb. 6. I think it is the best hospital I have ever seen or experienced. Anyway - just a thought - don't know how long you plan to stay, but did you know that there is a Ronald McDonald House VERY close to the hospital? I have not stayed there - but have stayed at many and have enjoyed the experience with Dania many times. Usually all you have to do is contact a nurse, who will contact social services - as rmh houses require a referral - not that it is income dependent - it is not - they just like to screen who they are getting!! Usually it costs $5 a night and your accomodations are often much nicer than a hotels and I have found I have gained friends for life there as well. They usually have a fully stocked kitchen where you can keep stuff there, and sometimes even provide meals. You don't both have to "stay" there overnight - as long as one of you is in and out of there that is fine. Also there is usually free laundry. Hope this helps.
